Throwback Thursday: The First World of Dance Event

From the beginning, the founders of World of Dance knew that the first event would progress into a dominating platform for dancers and artists alike. World of Dance provided a space that the dance community wanted, but was not formally established. This was a place where all dance styles could be united and celebrated. Instead of the different styles being separated by individual events, they were all under one roof showcasing their skills.

For the first time ever, World of Dance opened its doors on Saturday, March 15th, 2008. The event took place at the Fairplex in Pomona, California. Several dancers came to showcase their sickest moves in the Breakdance Battle Tournament, Dance Crew Competition, and Dance Crew Exhibition. Some of the teams that participated in this first event include Pac Modern, Common Ground, and the Jabbawockeez. Competitors were not just fighting for money and trophies, but also for the right to say they were some of the first World of Dance champions.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSLw9miuOfI&t=153sVideos of dancers at the first World of Dance event were shared globally, thanks to YouTube and the recording technology of that time. Not only did this give World of Dance exposure, but also the artists and dancers. This opened the door to viewers all over the world and helped the community grow closer together.
